On 14 October, Ms. Inger Andersen, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Ms. Dechen Tsering, Director of UNEP’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific visited IGES Tokyo Sustainability Forum for a meeting to discuss strengthening collaboration in addressing global environmental issues.
At the outset of the meeting, Ms. Andersen acknowledged the long-standing collaboration with UNEP based on IGES’s technical expertise and wealth of experience in hosting international programmes and implementation projects in the Asia-Pacific region. Discussions focused on the possibility of further collaboration including on waste management by IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET), while also looking at the challenges related to circular economy including plastic pollution. UNEP and IGES reaffirmed their continued collaboration in various areas of mutual interest.
